I modified the bridge to reduce the distance between the strings and the pickups. The pickups sit in the relief slots and the string pressure squeezes the top portion of the bridge down onto the pickups.
The pickup leads feed down through the inside of the bridge and then into the control cavity. If I have to lower the bridge during setup, I'll shave wood off the bottom of the bridge since now I'm pretty much committed to the shape of the top.
